Elsie Appau-Klu is a Ghanaian Lawyer, Human Resources Practitioner, Policy Analyst, Gender Rights Advocate, and Entrepreneur. From a humble beginning in Sokode-Bagble, a village in the Volta Region of Ghana, Elsie has risen to become one of Ghana’s young and successful chief executives. She has led several teams in training public and private stakeholders, particularly in Business Sustainability, SME management, and Youth Development.
As a private legal practitioner, Elsie specializes in commercial law, focusing on aviation, real estate, environment, and financial sectors.
She has worked for, advised, and consulted for various organizations, including the Netherlands Foreign Affairs Ministry, where she served as a Policy Analyst for Governance, Gender, WASH, and Water Governance before being appointed the Business Advisor for West Africa. In these roles, she advised on strategic bilateral programs between the governments of the Netherlands and Ghana, particularly in Environmental Governance, Gender, and Water and Sanitation. She managed multi-million Euro projects such as the MDG3 Fund, Ghana WASH Window, the Dutch Facility for Infrastructure Development (ORIO), the Ghana Netherlands WASH Programme, and the Natural Resources and Environmental Governance Programme.
Elsie is currently the Africa Region Representative of Acreaty Management Plc and the Managing Director of Acreaty Ghana Limited, a multinational human resources company. She is also the President of the Women's Economic Forum, which promotes women’s economic development and SMEs.
She serves on the boards of several corporate entities and non-governmental organizations, offering strategic advice.
Elsie is a member of several national and international professional bodies, including the International Bar Association, Ghana Bar Association, Association of Ghana Industries, Institute of Human Resource Practitioners, and the Society for Human Resource Professionals. She was recently appointed Executive Director of Corporate Affairs for the African Women Lawyers Association-Ghana (AWLA-GH).
As an entrepreneur, Elsie has business interests in real estate, fashion, retail, events management, hospitality, and management consultancy. She also co-chairs Ghana’s Ministry of Trade and Industry Business Regulatory Reforms Programme.
Academically, she holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Cape Coast, an LLB from GIMPA, a Qualifying Law Certificate from the Ghana School of Law, and an LLM from the University of Ghana. Additionally, she has a Postgraduate Diploma in Public-Private Partnerships from UNESCO IHE-Netherlands, a Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Governance from UNESCO IHE-Delft, a Diploma in Leadership from the Cape Town Business School, and a Diploma in Sustainability & Business Growth from the University of Stockholm.
